JACKSON, Wyo. — Winter is the season when everything seems to be asleep, but in reality it is teeming with movement, life and biodiversity.
The JH Bird and Nature Club and Teton Plants are celebrating 13 years of community-based programming at the Teton County Library with “Diving into Winter Ecology” presented by naturalist and writer, David Lukas.
Lukas’s talk will delve into the mysteries of winter ecology on Tuesday, Jan. 9, at 6 p.m. via Zoom. He will cover everything from the atmospheric conditions that create snow, to the microbes that live in snow, to the ways that plants and animals adapt and survive in snow and ice, according to JH Bird and Nature Club.
David Lukas is a well-known naturalist and author based in Washington’s Methow Valley. He has written seven books and contributed chapters to another 40 books on a wide range of bird and nature topics, including “Sierra Nevada Birds,” “Sierra Nevada Natural History” and “Language Making Nature.” He has also led thousands of natural history tours, classes, workshops and presentations.
