JACKSON, Wyo. — The Teton County Library (TCL) will be hosting free concussion screenings for all ages on Saturday afternoon.
Trained volunteers from Brain Base (formerly known as Watershed Jackson Hole), will be available in TCL’s Ordway Auditorium from 1 to 4 p.m. on Nov. 8 conducting baseline concussion screening tests. The tests are free, but online registration is required. A library card is not necessary to obtain a screening.
A baseline test does not diagnose a concussion, but instead measures and describes an individual’s pre-injury brain performance and health. This includes cognitive, physical, sleep and emotional functioning. According to the library’s event description, the best concussion management strategy is for youth athletes to receive a baseline screening prior to each sport season, and for adults to receive one every two years.
After suffering a head injury, individuals can receive another baseline test, and the difference in results will help identify and measure whether or not the individual is ready to safely return to activities.
In order to sign up for a screening slot on Saturday, register online here. After registering, follow the instructions below before attending the screening:
- Download the free Concussion Tracker app for iPhone or Android.
- Create an account in the app. Parents bringing their child for testing should create a family account and add the child. Accounts can be created on the app or on the website.
- Note the account number, listed on the app in the individual profile. This number will be needed on testing day.
- Get plenty of rest and water before the screening in order to maximize performance. Learn more about the app here.
