WILSON, Wyo. — A temporary lane shift on WY22 will go into effect on April 28 as crews begin to construct a new pathway tunnel as part of the ongoing WY22 Corridor Project.

“The last few weeks we’ve been building the dirt up and yesterday we paved a spot near Green Lane on WY22,” said Resident Engineer Bob Hammond.

This now allows for traffic to move over as crews begin to dig out the existing roadway to build a pathway tunnel. Hammond says the crews paved the road to ensure that motorists will still have a smooth and easy drive despite the surrounding construction.

“What we’ll do is dig this [road] out and put in about half the tunnel… the north half,” said Hammond. “We’ll pave over the top of that in six weeks or so, then put traffic on top of the half of the tunnel we just build and paved over. [Then we will] dig for the other half of the bike tunnel.”

Rest assured, folks will be able to cruise through the route without stops. Really, this is just shuffling the traffic around and giving travelers a good surface to travel on while crews continue their progress on the project, says Hammond.

Construction for the WY22 Corridor Project began in January. The project’s expected completion date is June 30, 2025.
