A message from Teton Conservation District.
JACKSON, Wyo. — Calling all landscapers, maintenance staff and lawn care
professionals! Teton Conservation District (TCD) invites you to complete the 2026 Trout Friendly Landscaper Certification — now available online through May 15th!
Complete the certification here.
This year, TCD is offering the certification virtually through a short video series and
quiz covering Trout Friendly practices. It’s FREE and can be completed at one’s own
pace until May 15, 2026.
Topics will include water conservation, pesticide application and monitoring efforts in
Teton County, landscaping with native plants, and more. Not a landscaper? Encourage
a landscaper you know to get certified.
Since launching in 2020, the Trout Friendly Landscaper and Business Certification
Program has trained over 35 local landscaping businesses to create and maintain
beautiful, sustainable lawns while reducing fertilizer and pesticide runoff.
Want to do your part? Here’s what you can practice in your own yard:
- Limit fertilization: Use slow-release or organic fertilizers sparingly and never fertilize within 20 feet of water.
- Be water-rise: Water at dawn or dusk every other day, avoid watering during rain or drought, and keep mower blades at three to four inches to reduce water and fertilizer needs.
- Plant natives and protect streams: Maintain a five-foot natural buffer around water bodies to help filter runoff.
- Use herbicides and pesticides responsibly: Only treat listed noxious weeds and opt for spot spraying or mechanical removal when possible.
Take Action!
- Landscapers: Online certification is open – complete by May 15, 2026. Get certified here.
- Homeowners: Get your lawn certified Trout Friendly on TCD’s website here and encourage your landscaper to get certified!
