Tickets are on sale now for La China Sonidera! Traveling to the Tetons from Oaxaca, Mexico, for a rare U.S. performance, La China Sonidera’s music has roots in Cumbia’s sounds, seasoned with touches of rock, hip-hop, and funk that incorporate a brass section. They play The Center Theater on Saturday, Sept. 20. La China Sonidera’s lyrics range from humorous themes from the popular Mexican imagination to compositions of a social and protest nature, without losing that spicy flavor that is a defining feature. The band is a reflection of the eclectic and multicultural society of Oaxaca.
La China Sonidera have over a decade of experience and are established as one of Oaxaca’s favorite bands. Their energetic Cumbia music leads to all-night parties and spontaneous dancing. The band notes that the people of their home city are known “as party animals,” which has contributed to the success of their music.
“We are thrilled to bring a unique cultural offering to Jackson this fall with La China Sonidera,” says Oona Doherty, Creative Initiatives Director. “The Center’s team and the management for La China have worked hard to secure visas and make travel arrangements to bring a special night of music from Oaxaca to Wyoming.”
