TETON VILLAGE, Wyo. — This Friday the 13th, 24 elite skiers and snowboarders will hurl themselves off of Corbet’s Couloir for the eighth annual Kings & Queens invitational.

The action will unfold at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort beginning at 10 a.m.

In January, the resort announced the weather window for the event as Feb. 7 through Feb. 14. Until very recently, snow conditions were not looking favorable. Just in time for the event, a Wednesday storm dumped more than a foot of snow on the Tetons.

While everyone breathes a sigh of relief that winter has returned to the valley, remember that new snow on top of icy crusts leads to heightened avalanche danger. Be vigilant out there, everyone.
