TETON VILLAGE, Wyo. — Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) is selling out of its season pass offerings in record time.

The adult Grand Bypass, popular amongst locals, went on sale May 1 and completely sold out last weekend, May 7 or 8. On Sunday, the passes could not be purchased online and by Monday morning a “sold out,” heading was added to the website.

Andrew Way, vice president of marketing at JHMR, spoke with Buckrail this morning, May 10 about the sell-out.

“We continue to expect that all, if not most of our passes will sell out. We want to say that as clearly and consistently as possible,” Way said.

The Bypass, introduced in 2018, offers unlimited skiing and riding except on blackout dates between Dec. 26-Jan. 2, Jan. 13-14 and Feb. 17-18. It’s a popular pass amongst locals because it offers the most number of days skiing at the lowest rate.

All age groups are sold out online, as of May 10. However, an in-person sale on youth (5-12) and teen (13-18) passes, with no limit on inventory will be held at Hoback Sports and in Teton Village at the ticket office on May 27-31. Parents/guardians can purchase passes on behalf of their child.

The Rendevous Mountain Pass, the resort’s premier pass runs an adult $2,429 and provides a long list of perks including, unlimited days at JHMR, an Ikon Base Pass, 50 percent off day tickets at Mountain Collective resorts, one early-up on the gondola, one free tune and demo and eight 25 percent off lift ticket buddy passes, to name a few.

When asked about how many Bypasses were sold, Way said, “the exact same as last year.” But when pressed on an exact number, he said, “that’s a number we do not share.”

This is the fourth year JHMR has “managed capacity” and with that management comes a limited number of season passes. Much like season passes, the resort has never shared specific figures related to capacity.

Season passes have sold out the past three seasons. Last year, the Bypass, Grand Pass and 10 Day Plus Pass sold out by Aug. 25. In 2021, popular season passes sold out on Sept. 7. In 2020, adult Grand Passes and Bypasses sold out within 24 hours after being released.

In the past few years, the resort has also pushed back the season pass sale. In 2018, passes went on sale Aug. 1. More recently, the resort has offered a spring sale, offering the lowest price, followed by a summer sale, before locking in prices for the season at the end of August.

By the looks of it, the summer sale might have little to no season pass inventory. “Rates will increase on June 1 for any season passes that remain,” according to a press release from the resort.

When asked about how many Bypasses are sold compared to Rendevous Passes, Grand Passes or 10-Days, Way said, “We don’t share that number but those numbers are not the same.”

According to reporting from Jackson Hole News & Guide, passes increased by 9 percent from 2021 to 2022. This year passes increased on the whole by 5 percent, according to Way, but a 10 percent renewal discount is also being offered on any pass.

According to a 2013 blog post from Jackson Hole Terrain, Grand Passes were on sale for $1,275 for the 2013/2014 season during the Aug. 1-31 sale. Ten years later, the Grand Pass is $1,969 for an adult.
