JACKSON, Wyo. — A memorial scholarship in remembrance of Max Martin has been formed through a partnership between the Jackson Hole Ski and Snowboard Club (JHSC) and the Jackson Hole Community School.

A press release from JHSC stated that the comprehensive scholarship honors the life, values and impact of Martin, who was a professional skier, coach and lifelong Jackson community member. The Balyasny family contributed $200,000 to start the Max Martin Memorial Scholarship fund, which aims to expand opportunities for student-athletes in Jackson.

“The scholarship creates access for young athletes pursuing high-level skiing or snowboarding alongside a rigorous and supportive educational experience,” JHSC wrote.

The scholarship will provide full tuition to Jackson Hole Community School and funding to cover competitive training and racing costs with JHSC. The scholarship is designed to support both academic and athletic development.

“By investing in both education and sport, the scholarship opens the door for student-athletes to reach their full potential in both endeavors,” reads the news release. “The Max Martin Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a student-athlete who reflects Max’s spirit: a passionate skier, a dedicated student, a positive and humble leader, and an individual committed to making the most of both academic and athletic opportunities.”

Martin died in a ski accident in January while on vacation in Japan. Visit the website here to learn more, donate and apply.
