JACKSON, Wyo. — Come get western March 13 through 15 with the Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club at the FCExcavation Jackson Hole Downhill!
The Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club has been hosting one of the few (if not the last) open, non-sanctioned community downhill races since 1982. The FCExcavation Jackson Hole Downhill is hosted on Jackson Hole Mountain Resort’s Crags-to-Moran racecourse off Teton Lift. The Downhill hosts skiers and snowboarders ages 12 and up, as well as current and former World Cup racers. The community race and junior race 1 will take place on Saturday, March 14. While Sunday, March 15, features a Junior Race II followed by the Pro Race.
Participants in the Community Race on Saturday can compete in up to TWO of the following categories: Amateur, Snowboard, Telemark, and “Fat & Baggy,” where a racer’s clothes must flap in the wind and their skis must be at least 100mm underfoot.
The Downhill culminates on Sunday with the Pro Race, which includes a high-stakes team component. Each team is led by a “Champion” who has put together their all-star, four-person roster including the following positions (each team must include at least one female racer, filling any one of the following positions):
- “Invited VIP” – Former U.S. Ski Team, World Cup, or another top competitor.
- “Master” – 40+ (on race day).
- “Junior” – U14-U19 aged athlete.
- “Wildcard 1” – Additional team members of any age or gender.
The VIPs for the pro race this year include: Ted Ligety, David Ketterer, Resi Stiegler, Dustin Cook, Abby Ghent, Lucy Wirth, Victor Major, Luke Kearing, and Alex Puente Tasias.
The Jackson Hole Downhill is open to anyone interested in going fast. All proceeds from the Downhill support JHSC’s exceptional programming, and provide opportunities for over 500 local student-athletes.
