JACKSON, Wyo. – Energy Conservation Works (ECW), in partnership with Wyoming-based Power Theory Inc., has launched a new interactive energy model that allows residents, building owners, and community partners to explore estimated energy use across approximately 15,000 buildings in Teton County.
Supported by a Community Foundation of Jackson Hole microgrant, the Teton County Digital Twin energy model creates a building-by-building model of the community’s built environment. The tool can help identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, reduce peak electricity demand, and better target investments in local homes and buildings.
“Teton County has thousands of buildings with different ages, heating systems, construction types, and energy needs,” said Melissa Turley, Executive Director of Energy Conservation Works. “This tool gives us a new way to understand those differences and identify where energy improvements may have the greatest impact.”
How to use the tool
Explore your building
Power Theory’s PowerTwin platform combines publicly available building information, weather data, and building energy modeling to estimate how individual buildings may use energy.
Through an interactive map, users can find their building, review what the model currently knows about it, and explore how improvements such as insulation, air sealing, or heat pumps could affect its estimated energy performance.
Because the platform relies on modeled data, it is not a substitute for utility billing information or a professional energy audit. Instead, it provides a starting point for understanding energy use and identifying potential opportunities.
Community members can also create an account to add or correct information about their building, helping improve the model over time.
If the model identifies opportunities to improve your home or building, Energy Conservation Works can help connect those insights to action through energy efficiency programs, including low-interest financing and Lower Valley Energy rebates.
From individual buildings to community-wide planning
The Digital Twin energy model also gives ECW and its partners a new way to examine energy use at a community scale. It can help identify patterns in Teton County’s building stock, highlight areas with significant efficiency potential, explore strategies for reducing peak demand, and inform more targeted programs and investments.
“This helps us move beyond broad assumptions toward strategies that better reflect the different buildings and energy needs across our community,” Turley said.
The initiative responds directly to a priority identified by ECW’s Board of Directors: developing a stronger understanding of Teton County’s energy landscape to guide future programs and investments.
Wyoming technology with broader potential
Power Theory is a Wyoming-based company combining building energy modeling, high-performance computing, and interactive software to make large-scale energy analysis accessible to communities and building owners.
Teton County is an early public application of the technology. As users contribute information and the model improves, ECW and Power Theory expect it to become an increasingly useful resource for energy efficiency programs, scenario analysis, utility planning, and community strategies to manage energy demand. This project complements ECW’s broader work to reduce energy consumption and peak demand.
