JACKSON, Wyo. — Anyone who finds themselves with an excess of game meat from a successful hunting season can donate it to Hole Food Rescue’s (HFR) game meat program.
In its sixth season this fall, Hunters for the Hungry is a collaboration with the Wyoming Wildlife Federation and Sporting Lead-Free. According to a Facebook post by HFR, the goal of the program is to bring locally sourced meat to more community members through donations from hunters. HFR’s 2024 impact report states that hunters donated 12 animals last year, and HFR rescued 1,162 pounds of deer, bison, elk and antelope meat.
“Game meat is the most popular item at Hole Food Rescue’s Food for the Community/Comida de la Comunidad program,” the social media post reads.
HFR will cover 100% of professing fees for hunters who wish to donate a whole animal. Harvests should be brought to Matt’s Custom Meats on Berger Lane, and hunters must indicate that the animal is a donation to the Hunters for the Hungry program upon dropping it off for processing.
Any hunters who are interested in donating part or all of the meat from their harvest can do so. They must have all necessary license and tag information, and carcasses should be field dressed and cooled as normal. All sampling and testing protocol for chronic wasting disease should be followed.
After processing, the meat will be distributed to the community through HFR’s community food programs.
