JACKSON HOLE, WYO – The Hoback Firefighters Picnic last Saturday took place even as hoses and other gear were drying out back at the station from the wildfire near the National Museum of Wildlife Art just days before the annual fundraiser. The 43rd such event might have benefitted some from the eerily-timed reminder that quick-acting local firefighters are the first and best line of defense when disaster strikes.
The dozen or so volunteer firefighters assigned to Station 3 (Hoback) were on hand for their annual BBQ dinner—43 years and running now—which was held for the first time in Astoria Hot Springs Park. They served a strong turnout of the public numbering in the hundreds. Many of the attendees were Hoback Nation locals.
Money raised from the picnic goes toward recruiting more firefighters and making sure they are properly equipped for the job.
