High school sports roundup from last weekend

JACKSON HOLE, WYO – The girls golf team continued its domination outpacing the field at the 3rd Annual Terry Berg Golf Invite at the Lander Golf Club in Lander, Wyo. Lander Valley’s Rachel Stoinski posted the tourny’s best individual scores but the trio of Sara White, Jacqueline Neishabouri, and Marth Olson—all of Jackson—grabbed 2nd, 3rd, and 4th individual spots for the overall win with a total 580 strokes.

The boys golf team placed a respectable 4th overall in the same invitational with a combined 724 strokes. The Broncs’ best golfer was Ethan Holmes, who shot a 95-92. Zach Wiley, Mason Evans, and Ridge Kling were all a stroke back Holmes with 188 scores. Worland won the invite with Lander Valley and Star Valley placing 2nd and 3rd.

The Lady Broncs volleyball team looked good at the Douglas Invitational last weekend. The Lady Broncs enjoyed 2-0 wins over Newcastle, Hot Springs, and Buffalo. They also beat Glenrock 2-1. They reached the title game of the winner’s bracket but Pine Bluffs proved too tough to beat.

Cross-country coach Jeff Brazil liked what he saw out of his runners who came into the first race of the season looking like they were in shape and ready to run.

Rookie racers Jared Perez-Pluma and Dylan Dowson turned in very solid performances for their first action ever with cross-country.

Up against strong competition from a few Utah teams, Coach Brazil was encouraged by his varsity girls who finished middle of the pack but managed to beat all Wyoming teams (Mountain View, Star Valley, Rock Springs, and Evanston) at the Weber State meet last weekend.

Ben Williams paced the boys varsity team. He climbed all the way up to 14th place with plenty of kick to spare at the finish line. The boys also finished mid-pack, struggling against Utah schools but beating all Wyoming schools entered.

The team is excited to travel to Denver next weekend for its next meet.

The Broncs tennis team hosted Cody and Powell last weekend with the girls winning 5-0 over Cody before falling to Powell later in the day. The girls were led by strong performances from Hyla Chatham, Valerie Stevenson, Anna Revill, Megan Tucker, Samantha Fairbanks, Tashi Ferris, and Abigail Daugherty.

The boys had a few nail-biters on route to their 2-3 weekend. Jackson picked up wins from sophomore Christopher Rosen, and juniors George Gervais, Oliver Jost, and Jackson Santomauro.

Jackson Broncs swimmers finished smack in the middle of the pool last weekend with a 345-point showing at the Bruce Gresly Pentathlon in Lander, Wyo. Lander Valley won the invitational with 963 points. Next best was Pinedale’s 633, followed by Powell at 561.

Olivia Roberts put together a strong 2nd place finish in the One Meter. Kahlan Wilson, Sofia Nolan, and KC Macleod also posted fast times in other events.
