JACKSON, Wyo. — This Halloween, there’s a selection of spook-tacular festivities, including Trick-or-Treat on Town Square, a crafty party and an up-close look at creepy critters.

Trick-or-Treat on Town Square

The Chamber of Commerce will transform Town Square again this year with the Haunting of Jackson Hole Halloween celebration on Thursday, Oct. 31.

Children and parents will make the annual circle around the square donning alter-ego-like costumes, as local businesses hand out candy. This year, the event has expanded to include the newly added Trunk-or-Treat with spookily decorated vehicles laden with candy.

“The biggest trick-or-treat event in the valley just got BIGGER!,” the Chamber of Commerce wrote on its website. “In addition to all of the fantastic local businesses that participate in Trick-or-Treat on the Town Square, firetrucks, police cars and other vehicles will be decorated with imaginative themes for a Trunk-or-Treat.”

Deloney Ave. and Center St. will be closed to vehicle traffic, allowing for a safer environment for kids to trick-or-treat.

A costume contest for humans and furry beasts will punctuate the night, according to the Chamber. Age groups from infant to adult are welcome, with special prizes for family/group costumes as well. PAWS of Jackson Hole encourages pet owners to dress up furry friends in their spookiest, cutest or most creative costume for a chance to win a prize.

  •  Trick or Treat on the Town Square | 3:30 to 6 p.m.
  • Costume Contests on the Town Square | 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Children’s Museum Halloween Party

The Jackson Hole Children’s Museum is hosting a free Halloween party for children and parents at its pop-up location at the Lodge Conference Center from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30. The Lodge is located at 920 W. Broadway Ave.

Community members will be able to explore Children’s Museum’s pop-up exhibits. Children can stimulate their senses and get spectacularly messy with some sensory activities, including pumpkin painting. Get candy for wearing a costume.

There will be light refreshments. This event is free for locals.

Creepy Critters on the National Elk Refuge

The National Elk Refuge and Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE) Visitor Center’s Halloween event is offering a microscopic look at all things creepy in our natural world on Wednesday, Oct. 30. The interactive small creature event will take place from 3 to 5 p.m in the National Elk Refuge’s Visitor Center.

Kids can look through a microscope to explore dead butterflies, scorpions, cicadas, spiders, wasps and beetles in full detail. New this year, the Visitor Center’s theater has been transformed into a bat cave that people can walk through and participate in a cave scavenger hunt.

“Creepy Critters is one of our favorite community events,” GYE Visitor Services Manager Raena Parsons told Buckrail. “It’s an opportunity for kids of all ages to learn about the often misunderstood creepy critters around us!”

There will be a variety of paper based crafts, and trick-or-treaters will be able to take home flashlights, stickers, temporary tattoos and candy. Costumes are encouraged.
