PINEDALE, Wyo. — Weekend outdoor enthusiasts, beware.

A new fire has been reported in the Bridger Wilderness on the Pinedale Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF). According to a Friday afternoon update from BTNF, the Granite Fire is burning east of Granite Lake and is estimated to be 0.5 to 1 acre in size.

The burn is located about 8 miles southeast of the Green River Lakes Trailhead and only a half-mile from the Continental Divide Trail. Smoke could be visible in the area, and BTNF asks the public not to report.

“Red flag conditions continue to make aerial resource support challenging, but smokejumpers out of West Yellowstone are en route to take direct extinguishment actions,” BTNF said.
