MOOSE, Wyo. – On Friday, May 31, Grand Teton National Park (GTNP) announced the release of its 2024 report, Grand Glimpse: State of the Park, which provides updates about visitor experiences, resource stewardship, community engagement and the accomplishments of park staff and volunteers.
The 65-page report also shares daily operations and actions required to manage the park.
Some highlights of the 2024 report includes: 6,536 visitors participated in various youth programs, 790 wildlife traffic jams were managed, the National Park Service (NPS) provided 314 new housing units, 965 grizzly bears inhabit GTNP and neighboring Yellowstone National Park ecosystem, 409 volunteers assisted park staff, 164 permanent staff are employed and the five visitor centers served 1.01 million visitors.
The annual Grand Glimpse details GTNP’s various conservation projects, including the restoration of native sage-steppe species and sagebrush habitat in approximately 4,500 acres of the Kelly Hayfields, the implementation of Teton Range bighorn sheep winter zones and the mitigation of aquatic invasive species.
GTNP Superintendent Chip Jenkins reflected on past accomplishments listed in the 2023 report. In 2023, the park identified and addressed potential threats, and implemented actions to conserve wildlife populations.
“Every achievement in 2023 reflects the continued progress of addressing key issues, from the dynamic ecosystem, to changing visitation and the evolving needs of our workforce,” Jenkins said in the announcement. “The creativity, adaptability and plain hard work of the teams and individuals who contribute to this success is impressive.”
According to GTNP, the park’s ecosystem is the crown jewel of the National Park Service, and staff continue to be committed in its wilderness and wildlife populations preservation.
“As we look ahead, we are committed to our shared core values and upholding the mission of the National Park Service by our work to protect the natural and cultural resources and to serve people today and for generations to come,” Jenkins said.
