GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK — New year, new summer camping plans.

Grand Teton National Park (GTNP) announced that advanced reservations for peak season backcountry camping permits will become available at 8 a.m. on Wednesday via Recreation.gov. Peak season is considered May 1 through Oct. 31.

About one third of all backcountry permits will be released online. The rest of the permits will be available in person in the park on a first-come, first-served basis. One backcountry permit allows for up to 10 consecutive nights of stay within the park’s backcountry (and 10 nights total during the summer). Camping parties will be charged a baseline fee of $20, plus a fee of $7 per person, per night. The fee structure was changed in 2024. The park began charging for backcountry permits in 2014.

“Permits go fast,” GTNP posted to social media on Monday. “Be ready and logged in when reservations open.”
