WYOMING — Governor Mark Gordon celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) by signing a proclamation at the Capitol on June 8.
The DEQ was established on July 1, 1973, through the Environmental Quality Act. According to a press release from the Wyoming DEQ, the purpose of the Act was to protect and enhance air, land and water resources.
“From its establishment, the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality has represented a state that recognizes the need to produce its natural resources while protecting her exceptional water, air and pristine lands,” says Gordon. “Over the years the DEQ has had great leadership, and today I look at the wonderful work the leadership in this room has done making complicated policy work for the citizens of Wyoming.”
The Wyoming DEQ has recently been raising awareness to protect public and pets from harmful cyanobacterial blooms in local water sources, among other initiatives.
