PINEDALE, Wyo. — The Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD) has confirmed the presence of chronic wasting disease (CWD) on a new hunt area near Pinedale.
On Monday, WGFD announced that CWD has been detected on Deer Hunt Area 141 in the Pinedale Region.
The deer hunt area is located near Green River Lakes and is bordered by four other deer hunt areas where CWD has been detected in the past: 128 (CWD detected in 2016), 142 (CWD detected in 2020), 154 and 155 (CWD detected in both areas in 2022). This particular deer hunt area overlaps with Elk Hunt Area 95.
WGFD announces all new CWD discoveries in hunt areas in order to keep the public informed. CWD is an always fatal disease that affects neurological function in deer, elk and moose. Many hunt areas in western Wyoming are considered CWD Focus Areas. In these zones, hunters are asked to participate in testing and to submit lymph nodes of harvested animals to WGFD to sample for CWD. Most hunting zones on this side of the state do not require CWD testing. The public is also asked to contact the nearest WGFD office if a sick or injured animal is seen.
