JACKSON, Wyo. — The Community Prevention Coalition of Teton County will host a free safeTALK event on Friday, Feb. 9, providing interested community members with tools to help prevent suicide.

The four-hour session will equip attendees to be more alert to someone thinking of suicide and help them connect with further help. Participants will learn to prevent suicide by recognizing signs, engaging an individual and connecting them to an intervention source for further support.

According to the Coalition, safeTALK participants gain confidence asking people about suicide directly, connecting them to lifesaving resources and keeping them safe until those resources take over.

The training is open to people ages 15 and up. It will be held on Friday, Feb. 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church’s Hansen Hall. To sign up or learn more, call 307-732-8495 or email beverly.shore@wyo.gov.

Those experiencing suicidal thoughts can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 988 for free, confidential help.
