WYOMING — It’s time to get those fishing rods out, because Wyoming and Idaho agencies are offering free fishing events this June.

On Saturday, June 1, anyone and everyone can fish without a fishing license in Wyoming.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will host free fishing day festivities across the state on Saturday, June 1. Kids in the Jackson area can learn a thing or two about rods and reels starting at 10:30 a.m. on June 1 at Rendezvous “R” Park in Wilson. Equipment will be provided by Jackson Hole One Fly, Trout Unlimited and the Teton County Conservation District. Lunch will be provided by Creekside Market, Stone Drug and U.S. Foods, and served by the JH Lions Club.

Farther afield, Wyoming State Parks will waive daily use fees at all parks/recreation areas that provide angling on June 1. State parks offering free entry include Boysen, Buffalo Bill, Curt Gowdy, Edness K. Wilkins, Fort Phil Kearny, Glendo, Guernsey, Keyhole, Seminoe and Hawk Springs. Anglers can also visit the state parks that offer free entry year-round: Bear River, Hot Springs, Medicine Lodge and Sinks Canyon. Camping fees and other costs might still apply.

Do note that Free Fishing Day does not apply to waters in the National Parks or on the Wind River Reservation; all fishing regulations, creel and size limits, gear restrictions and stream closures remain in effect.

Idaho will also host free fishing events on Saturday, June 8. Teton Valley Trout Unlimited will host a kids’ fishing event at Trail Creek Pond from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 8. Volunteers will be on hand to help teach baiting, casting and handling fish. Rods, fishing supplies, food and drink will be provided. The first 100 kids will receive a free fishing rod, while supplies last.
