JACKSON, Wyo. — Take a virtual trip outside of Jackson for an exploration of energy in the developing world. Energy Conservation Works will provide two opportunities to broaden your horizons on the topic of energy across diverse and distant locales.
Join Energy Conservation Works, Interconnections 21 and the Jackson Hole Center for Global Affairs for a free virtual screening of Switch On, produced by the Switch Energy Alliance (SEA), starring the chairman of SEA, Dr. Tinker.
Screenings of the film began on November 18 and have continued every Wednesday, with a final screening scheduled for December 9. Sign up here to RSVP for your spot at the final screening on December 9!
“I didn’t realize how large the numbers were before watching this film,” said Megan Jennings, Program Coordinator of Energy Conservation Works (ECW). “13% of people in the world lack access to electricity and 33% rely on wood or biomass fuels for cooking. Switch On reinforces how important it is to continue to strive toward worldwide energy security and how lucky Jackson is to have reliable and accessible energy.”
Switch On sheds light on differences across the world and is a thought provoker for how energy is brought into our homes.
Visit the Maasai savannah of Kenya, Africa’s largest slum and its newest hydroelectric dam. Journey into the coal towns, ports, power plants and mines of growing Vietnam. Cross Nepal with an environmental health scientist, studying people’s transition from the most dangerous cooking fuel, killing millions a year, to the safest. And bring solar electricity, for the first time ever, to the Arhuaco people of Northern Colombia.
You can also join a discussion on December 16 for a Global Energy Perspectives Panel. This virtual expert panel will connect the developing energy world to our community. You do not have to watch the movie to participate in the panel discussion.
Speakers will include local community members; Candra Day from Vista 360 and Nathan Wendt from Jackson Hole Global Affairs. You will have the opportunity to send in questions prior to the event if you cannot attend the panel. There will also be an option to ask live questions to the panel on December 16.
