JACKSON HOLE, WYO – After Stage 2 of the Pedigree Stage Stop Race, one thing can be said for certain: It’s anyone’s race.
Mushers pulled into Pinedale yesterday with Anny Malo from Quebec, Canada, covering the 34 miles quicker than anyone with a total elapsed time of 2:22:17. Hot on her heels was Stage 1 winner Érick LaForce with a 2:23:14. Defending champ Lina Streeper’s 2:24:21 was good enough for 3rd. Richard Beck and Jeff Conn finished up 4th and 5th, respectively.
La Force maintains the overall lead with Malo and Streeper close behind.
“What an exciting day on the trail! Today we saw a few places change and a new daily winner: Anny Malo from Quebec. It’s still anyone’s race as each day is different,” said race commentator Jerry Bath.
The mushers enjoyed a bluebird day for racing combined with a freshly groomed track in the Upper Green River Lakes area that made for fast times on the way to Pinedale.
Bath believes today (Stage 3) could be a make-or-break day for some mushers as the race travels to Kemmerer.
“On this day, or the next, is where I believe the race will make another change-up. But it’s still anyone’s guess—even I’m hesitant to wager just yet,” Bath admitted.
