WYOMING — The U.S. Energy and Employment Report 2023 outlines energy employment by state, and from 2021 to 2022 Wyoming energy jobs increased by 4,387 jobs, or 10.5 percent.
According to the Report, the energy sector in Wyoming represents 16.5 percent of total state employment. In 2022, Wyoming had 45,992 energy workers, which represented 0.6 percent of all U.S. energy jobs.
Of those energy jobs, the Report states 1,412 were in electric power generation, 21,887 in fuels, 12,248 in transmission, distribution and storage, 6,844 in energy efficiency and 3,601 in motor vehicles. Utilities was the largest industry sector in the electric power generation sector, with 79.4 percent of jobs, and construction was second largest with 12.2 percent.
The Report shows the fuels sector, which is still the largest sector and primarily includes coal, oil and other petroleum and natural gas, gained 3,855 jobs and increased 21.4 percent from 2021 to 2022. The fuel sector employed 2.1 percent of the national total. The Report ranks Wyoming in the top four states with the highest percentage growth in fuels jobs, along with North Dakota, West Virginia and New Mexico.
Locally, the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce’s 2023 Annual Indicator Report shows that the mining industry produces one of the smallest sectors of jobs in Teton County and decreased in 2022.
