Teton County voters showed up in droves for the 2018 primary election. Out of 13,720 registered voters, 6,000 made their voices heard on Tuesday — a 43 percent voter turnout.
Arne Olaus Jorgensen, incumbent Donald Frank, Jonathan Schechter and Jessica Sell Chambers made it through to the general election bid for Town Council, a nonpartisan race. Judd Grossman and Zachary Padilla fell off the ticket.
Three candidates moved forward to the general election in the Teton County Commissioners race on the Democratic side: Seadar Rose Davis, Mark Newcomb and Luther Propst. Richard Aurelio did not make it through. All County Commissioner Republican candidates moved through to the general election.
House District 22 provided a close race between incumbent Marti Halverson and Bill Winney. In Teton County, Winney inched out by 22 votes— 315 to Halverson’s 293—but the district covers multiple counties.
While some state races showed an upset in Teton County—like Dodson over Barrasso—the rest of the state voted otherwise.
As of 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Barrasso was declared the winner of the U.S. Senate GOP primary race.
Mark Gordon swept Teton County in his bid for governor in the GOP primary, upsetting the local candidate Foster Friess. Gordon collected twice the amount of votes as Friess in Teton County, and as of press time Gordon was declared the GOP primary winner. With over 90 percent of precincts reporting, Friess came in second behind Gordon. Democratic candidate Mary Throne won the majority of primary votes in her party.
Leland Christensen’s home county showed strong support for his State Treasurer bid, giving him 77 percent of the vote. Liz Cheney also held the majority of the votes in Teton County for U.S. Representative, with 49 percent.
These results reflect the unofficial summary report from Teton County. Overall winners of statewide and district-wide races are not reflected.
