DRIGGS, Idaho — The Driggs Scarecrow Contest is back for its seventh year and registration is open until Sept. 24.

Businesses and nonprofits in Driggs can participate in the competition to create a scarecrow and display it for community voting. There is no theme to follow, and according to the Downtown Driggs Association (DDA) Facebook post, the cash prizes are bigger this year.

The DDA post instructs participants to “create your own scarecrow to display outside of your business without blocking sidewalks or street parking. If you don’t have a storefront, your scarecrow can be placed in Mugler Plaza.” Using recycled materials to build the scarecrow is encouraged. All scarecrows must be on display by Oct. 1 so DDA can take photos for voting and marketing.

The celebration is a way to promote local businesses, and an opportunity for community members to stroll around town and vote for their favorites. Voting will take place from Oct. 10 through 31 on the DDA website or via the QR code that will accompany scarecrows and marketing materials. The Downtown Driggs Trick or Treat will take place on Oct. 31, from 3 to 5 p.m. and the scarecrow winners will be announced on Nov. 5.

One voting ballot is allowed per person, and voters should make sure to vote for every category. Each scarecrow can win up to two categories.

Categories and prizes for this year’s competition:

  • First place: $500
  • Second place: $200
  • Third place: $100
  • Best nonprofit: $500
  • Kids’ choice: $100
