JACKSON, Wyo. — Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) has provided updates regarding the two major wildfires being fought on its lands.

Over the weekend, the Dollar Lake Fire in the Green River Lakes area reached the size of 15,236 acres after remaining 13,449 acres in size for several days. The blaze is now 22% contained, BTNF noted.

“On the southeastern interior of the fire, crews and equipment are constructing direct line between the Bible Camp area and Little Sheep Mountain,” Monday’s update reads. “The structure protection group continues to bolster defense systems around the Bible Camp area and improve defensible space. The structure group will also assist with initial attack of new starts within the Dollar Lake Fire area.”

Incident managers forecast an increase in fire activity as the weather becomes warmer and drier. Smoke from the fire is likely to become more visible, per BTNF.

The Willow Creek Fire near Smoot is reported to be 4,065 acres in size, a decrease from the 4,356 acres reported on Friday. Containment has increased to 38%. Helicopters have assisted with water drops on the fire’s east and west sides, contributing to the containment increase.

“Firefighters on the north end will be camped near the fire line to fight the fire more efficiently, extinguishing hot spots and tying the north line together,” Monday’s update reads. “Hoses and sprinklers have been deployed on the east side of the fire near structures and crews are ready to utilize them if needed.”

Evacuation orders, closures and fire restrictions remain unchanged for both fires.
