BONNEVILLE COUNTY, Idaho — A dog was rescued from a precarious situation on the South Fork of the Snake River on Sunday afternoon, according to a press release by the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office.
Emergency responders answered a call on Sunday, July 30, around 4:35pm reporting that an overturned drift boat was pinned against a cement pylon near the Snake River Bridge at Spring Creek. The caller said a dog appeared to be stuck on the boat, and two people were floating downstream of the scene without personal floatation devices.
The humans were retrieved by a nearby boating party and deposited safely on the riverbank.
Emergency responders located the dog, Finn, who was wearing a life jacket with a leash, which was caught between the boat and the pylon. Deputies got to Finn in a motorboat and brought him back to safety.
“The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office reminds those who recreate on the water to always plan for emergencies and wear a lifejacket,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “Warm temperatures and nice weather doesn’t mean currents and obstacles in the river are easier to navigate. Surface and undercurrents in the Snake River can quickly overcome a boat’s ability to avoid obstacles.”
