JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Concert organizers for a potential Dead & Company show in South Park this summer say they are up against a deadline of March 1 to make the event happen.
The two-day concert is planned for August 18-19, with music from 2-10pm each day. It would take place in South Park on property owned by the Gill family. The area where the concert is proposed is zoned rural, meaning a special events permit is all that is required as opposed to a more stringent process like a conditional use permit (CUP).
The Board of County Commissioners can place this application on an agenda at its leisure as long as it is 45 days ahead of the date. The problem is, concert promoters need to know soon whether the show is a go or not.
Nikki Gill has asked the community to urge commissioners to move quickly on this. The BCC has an upcoming voucher meeting next Monday, February 26. The concert is not on the agenda at this point. The next regular meeting of the BCC is scheduled for March 6 with the time-consuming Teton Raptor Center proposal slated for that meeting. It would be too late for concert organizers anyway.
The concert is expected to draw 15,000-20,000 spectators. Commissioners have already received correspondence from both citizens opposed to the concert and those who want to make it happen.
