JACKSON HOLE, WYO – The idea began as a Christmas present from a brother-in-law to two brothers with hardy appetites. How hardy? They were about to find out.
The Watson family was on hand at Jackson Drug diner yesterday to watch Trevor (a junior at JHHS) and Nathan (a sophomore at UW) tackle the Ralph Burger—an enormous 3lb burger with all the fixin’s. Finish it in less than an hour and it’s free and your photo goes up on the wall of fame.
“I got them this present because they love food. I’ve seen them both put away a lot of food, and they always talk about food. So, I just wanted them to try something they’ve never been able to try before,” said Travis Woods, the brother-in-law.
After waiting 25 minutes for the burger to be prepared, the boys dug in. Both started out strong and eager. They were excited for the challenge and, more importantly, hungry. The brothers polished off nearly half the beast of a burger in the first 20 minutes and started in on the fries.
But the meal took its toll. At the half-hour mark, both men threw up their hands (thankfully not their food) and declared they were finished.
Trevor said, “I had a very high hopes going into it, until I actually saw the food. Now that it’s over, I’m happy it’s over, and it was a very fun experience.”
When asked if he would ever do it again, he was hesitant on a full stomach. Yeah, maybe,” he said.
Nathan added, “It was way, way, way bigger than I thought it was going to be. If I had to do it again, I’d ask for a half-burger size. That’s what I would recommend if anyone else were to try it—to ask for a half!”
“It’s a fun memory we will cherish for many Christmases to come!” said the entire family.
