BONDURANT, Wyo. — A community event celebrating conservation and stewardship in the Hoback Basin will take place in Bondurant this Saturday, with discussions, field tours, and the Bondurant Art and Agricultural Market (BAAM).
Conservation Field Day, which is being co-hosted by the Ricketts Conservation Foundation and BAAM, will take place at the Branding Iron Cafe on Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event aims to connect the Hoback Basin community with conservation organizations through topical discussions and tours of conservation projects.
The event’s press release from the Ricketts Conservation Foundation states that landowners and community members play a vital role in “easing pressure on this ecosystem,” but that they often lack the resources to manage the environment. Over the past decade, the Hoback Basin and the natural systems therein have been impacted by fire, drought, and expanded development, reads the news release. The basin hosts diverse wildlife, migratory species, and the headwaters of the Hoback River.
“We live in an extraordinary landscape and to ensure its long-term viability, we all must do our best to steward every acre,” said Ricketts Conservation Foundation Project Manager Shari Meeks. “Conservation Field Day is intended to provide landowners with tools and programs they can utilize, helping everyone achieve optimum natural resource stewardship on every acre.”
A series of informational presentations will take place throughout the morning, covering topics like Sublette County Weed & Pest programs, bees, gardens, native plants, the history of Bondurant, forest planning and grant opportunities. After the discussions, attendees will have an opportunity to visit ongoing conservation projects like the Hoback River Restoration project.
