JACKSON, Wyo. — Buckrail has confirmed the death of a climber who fell while climbing in the Cirque of the Towers of the Wind River Range last weekend.
The victim was a 35-year-old woman from Colorado who fell while descending Pingora Peak after having summitted. Reports say she fell some 400 feet while rappeling down the south buttress of the 11,884-foot mountain.
The incident is under investigation. Fremont County Coroner’s office is waiting on a toxicology report before the woman’s identity will be released. More information is expected next week.
The popular peak claimed the life of internationally-known climber Zijah Kurtovic, 63, of Illinois, after a fall on August 10, 2019. Two others were killed in 2015 on their climb.
