WYOMING – The Cody city council approved the return of the popular gunfight re-enactments for this summer provided the event organizers adhere to a list of conditions. The shootout spoofs were suspended last season after three spectators were injured during the Cody Gunfighter Show when an actor accidentally loaded live ammunition instead of blanks into one of the firearms at the group’s July 29 performance last summer.
At the request of Chief of Police Charles Baker, the Cody Gunfighters will be required to adopt a set of safety rules provided by the Cody Police Department, assign a site safety manager independent of the troupe who will inspect each firearm prior to show time, and all members must pass a formal background check. The group will also be required to carry a one million dollar insurance policy.
The nightly shows are scheduled Monday through Saturday between June 1 and September 30, 2017.
