Editor’s Note: Fees for commercial entities to drop off Christmas tree loads to the Trash Transfer Station are now $144 per ton, not $88 per ton as originally reported. Buckrail regrets the error.
JACKSON, Wyo. — Teton County residents can start to drop off their Christmas trees at the Teton County Fairgrounds on Thursday, Dec. 26.
Integrated Solid Waste & Recycling Waste Diversion Outreach Coordinator Cynthia Harger told Buckrail that trees should be dropped in the pile on the southwest side of the Fairgrounds, near the Flat Creek Drive/Snow King Ave. entrances.
It is important to note that the tree drop-off at the Fairgrounds is for residents only and that trees should be completely undecorated when they are dropped off. Christmas trees will be used in the composting process and diverted from the landfill.
“Trees are chipped/shredded to be used for compost and mulch, versus being trucked 100 miles to a landfill in Idaho,” Harger said.
Residents can also deliver trees to the Trash Transfer Station at 5400 W. US Hwy 89 at no cost through Jan. 31. Trees that still have lights, ornaments, etc., cannot be mulched and will be counted as trash and charged a fee, according to Harger.
Christmas tree loads from commercial entities, including landscapers and property managers, must be delivered to the Trash Transfer Station at 5400 W. US Hwy 89 during business hours: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fees are $88/ton or 4¢ per pound with a $10 minimum.
