JACKSON, Wyo. — The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce and the ACLU of Wyoming will cohost a free Zoom webinar on Dec. 4, from 8 to 9 a.m. to discuss employee rights in the wake of more common immigration-related workplace issues. The webinar is presented as part of the “Business Over Breakfast” series.
Because a high number of workplaces employ immigrant workers, the Chamber and ACLU of Wyoming will offer this free, nonpartisan event to provide essential information to help employers remain informed.
This is not the first time the Chamber of Commerce has offered immigration-related information sessions. In February, the Chamber hosted an event that gave practical advice for business owners regarding how to legally handle interactions with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“For us it’s just making sure that businesses have the resources they need in an environment where obviously immigration is front and center,” Chamber President and CEO Rick Howe said in a statement to Buckrail. “It is a support to the February event, and since it’s been eight or nine months since then, things have changed and we want to make sure people have what they need to run their businesses in a legal and compliant manner.”
Howe also emphasized that Jackson is a law-abiding community.
“Understanding how immigration enforcement works is essential for legal compliance and workplace stability,” the Chamber website stated. “This workshop ensures you are prepared, not surprised.”
During the event in February, Howe remarked that an estimated 40% of the Jackson workforce are immigrants.
Topics covered by the session will include:
- How immigration enforcement works
- What to do if officials visit the workplace
- Employer responsibilities and employee rights
- Best practices to stay prepared and compliant
All Chamber members and local employers are encouraged to attend. Those interested can register here.
