JACKSON, Wyo. — The Bridger-Teton National Forest’s (BTNF) Jackson Ranger District has announced that it will hold a public e-bike workshop on Thursday, Feb. 29 at the Old Wilson Schoolhouse.
The meeting will address BTNF’s proposal to allow Class 1 e-bikes on 28 miles of existing trails in the Teton Pass area, and to extend the season of e-bike use on trails in Horsetail Creek and Munger Mountain areas.
Class 1 e-bikes are defined as “an e-bike equipped with a motor that provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling and ceases to provide assistance when the e-bike reaches the speed of 20 miles per hour.” Class 2 and 3 e-bikes would not be permitted on proposed trails. All proposed trails are currently open to mountain bikes during the summer season. A permit system is also proposed to assist with education and enforcement.
Along with the announcement, BTNF has released a 25-minute video presentation that details the current e-bike proposal and the community feedback it has elicited. The video also reviews the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process for an environmental assessment.
