JACKSON, Wyo. — The Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center’s avalanche report for the Tetons this week is calling for potentially dangerous conditions.

According to the report, this week’s forecasted snowfall and wind will begin to load a shallow, early-season snowpack. There will be “sensitive drifts of new snow” that will be thicker and more widespread higher in elevation.

“Consider avoiding steep, wind-loaded slopes—particularly those harboring old snow & ranging NW-N-NE in aspect—if venturing into the backcountry,” Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center writes. “Signs of instability, such as fresh avalanches and collapsing or cracking, indicate that conditions have become dangerous.”

Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center advises careful travel and terrain selection, and reminds all recreationists that even getting caught in a small avalanche can have serious consequences if swept into rocks or other hazards.
