JACKSON HOLE, WYO – The Teton County Sheriff’s Office Communication’s Center has received multiple prank calls reporting serious crimes in progress, commonly known as “swatting.”
The ploy is intended to cause disruption of the public safety system. The Center started receiving calls at approximately 4:30pm. After investigating each one the calls, they were determined to be a false report with no emergency existing. The same apparent caller then began calling local businesses reporting similar incidents.
The identity and location of the caller are unknown at this time and the Sheriff’s Office and Police Department are investigating.
Anyone receiving a similar call from these prank callers are urged to remain calm and attempt to gain the caller’s number if possible. Report any information to the non-emergency dispatch number (307) 733-2331.
