MOOSE, Wyo. — On Tuesday, August 11, at 5:45 p.m., Teton Science Schools will host Miriam Horn at the Murie Ranch in Grand Teton National Park for a free “Front Porch Conversation” about her book “Homesick for a World Unknown: The Life of George B. Schaller.”

George Schaller is “celebrated worldwide for his groundbreaking wildlife research,” according to a press release, whose “conservation journey was profoundly shaped in Jackson Hole.” He was mentored by Olaus and Mardy Murie, and joined them on the 1956 Sheenjek Expedition, which set in motion the effort to protect what is now the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Per the press release, Schaller is known to be a champion for wildlife science and conservation, and worked with Jane Goodall early on in her study of chimpanzees. He also conducted early research on Wyoming’s white pelicans, and stayed connected with the Murie Ranch throughout his career.
