Bear Spray Practice at ElkFest this weekend

This Saturday, the Greater Yellowstone Coalition will be at ElkFest with a bear “charger.” In an effort to educate folks on the effectiveness of carrying bear spray, attendees have the opportunity to test their reaction time on deploying bear spray on a decoy bear that will be charging for you.

Many people carry bear spray with them in the wilderness, but do they know how to use it? On Saturday, you can get a little practice in and begin to feel comfortable. In addition to the bear charge, the GYC will have more information on bear behavior and how to avoid bear encounters.

All of this is in an effort to keep people safe, and grizzly bears alive and wild. See you at ElkFest, bring your best reflexes.
