WYOMING — Wyoming Senator John Barrasso has announced that he will seek re-election this year. He has represented Wyoming in the U.S. Senate since 2007.

In a campaign video released Wednesday, Barrasso takes aim at President Biden’s economic, energy and immigration policies, and aligns himself with Donald Trump. Barrasso spends a good portion of the video discussing “closing the border” with charged language.

“Every state, including Wyoming, is now a border state,” he says. “But this means drug trafficking, human trafficking and crime. It means a drain on our public resources. … We need to close the border and stop the invasion now.”

Barrasso states in the video that he has “led the fight against Joe Biden’s energy policies,” and contends that he will continue to “put Wyoming energy first” if re-elected.

He also addresses the recent death of his wife, Bobbi Barrasso, who died in January after battling brain cancer.

“I want to thank you for your prayers and for all the kindness you’ve shown,” Barrasso says in the video. “Bobbi loved Wyoming and its people, as do I.”

A trained physician, Barrasso entered politics as a state senator representing Natrona County in 2003. He was re-elected to the U.S. Senate in 2018. He serves as the Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference and sits on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
