VICTOR, Idaho — Teton County Library Alta Branch and Idaho Master Naturalists Teton Valley Chapter are inviting the community to a free screening of a wildfire documentary followed by a Q&A with a panel of experts on the topic on Saturday, April 12.
“Elemental: Reimagine Wildfire” will be screened at 7 p.m., immediately followed by the panel discussion, at Pierre’s Theatre (37 N. Main Street in Victor, Idaho).
According to a press release, “Elemental” was filmed across the West and is narrated by Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated actor David Oyelowo. It takes viewers on a journey with the top experts in the nation to better understand fire as it follows the “harrowing” escape from Paradise, California, as the town ignited from wind-driven embers and burned within a few hours of the fire’s start.
The film then continues to highlight the dangers posed in the last two years when Oregon, California and Colorado suffered their worst wildfires in recorded history. In the wake of destruction, the documentary presents a new way of reimagining people’s relationship with wildfire to keep homes and communities safe.
“The solutions are timelier and more urgent than ever,” the press release reads.
The Panelists:
- Mike Maltaverne, Fire Chief of Teton County Fire Rescue
- Jonathan White, Fuels Specialist for the Caribou-Targhee National Forest
- Jen Pierce PhD, Department of Geosciences Professor at Boise State and Director of the Earth, Wind and Fire Laboratory
- Matthew Ward, Forest and Fire Program Manager for The Nature Conservancy
The program is free but ticketed. Tickets are available through the Pierre’s box office.
