JACKSON, Wyo. — Adventurers will have a chance to hear from climbers and first responders about how to avoid and address accidents in the backcountry on Thursday, August 15.

The free storytelling event, “Lessons at 13,000 Feet: Stories from the High Alpine,” will feature local climbers Lars Schou and Hadden Goodman, Jenny Lake Climbing Rangers Zack Little and Ken Kries and Teton County Search and Rescue (TCSAR) volunteer Jen Reddy.

Schou and Goodman will tell stories about their experiences with serious injuries in the high alpine, and the first responders will talk about rescuing mountaineers in the backcountry, sharing what they’ve learned from responding to trauma and how these incidents have shaped their views of risks above the treeline.

The event is put on by the TCSAR Foundation, Teton Climbers’ Coalition and Jenny Lake Rangers.

“Incidents like this are not uncommon in the Tetons, but getting to understand the decisions that contributed to them, and the reflections they’ve catalyzed, is an experience few get to have,” TCSAR Foundation said in a press release.

The event, which will be held from 6 to 7:30 pm at the Black Diamond store at 160 W Broadway, will feature food and drink from Yeah Buddy Pizza and Roadhouse Brewery.

Those who are interested can register here and will be entered to win a raffle.
