JACKSON, Wyo. — During the Regular Town Council Meeting on Monday, Jan. 9, the Town of Jackson voted five to zero in unanimous approval of the purchase of a used 2023 Ford Lightning All-Electric (EV) truck for the Water Division of Public Works.
According to the meeting minutes, the Water Division will use the truck to assist in responding to emergency calls and to provide general operation to the Town-owned water system. Public Works and the Water Division recommended using an EV truck for the increased exterior space (bed) for hauling equipment, all-wheel drive capabilities and the ability to reduce the carbon footprint of the Water Division and Public Works.
According to Town of Jackson, the vehicle purchase could qualify for the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) direct pay program available to local governments. This non-competitive rebate program provides up to $7,500 for each qualified Electric Vehicle purchase. It is estimated that it could take up to one year from the date of purchase before rebates are received.
