JACKSON HOLE, WYO – It didn’t take long for tempers to flare up at Curtis Canyon. The popular camping spot for Jackson’s 90-day wonder workforce gets crowded and cranky by mid-summer, but an altercation last week may be an indication the campground is already attracting the wrong crowd.
Eric Webb, 34, was arrested Friday on multiple charges including Unlawful Contact, Reckless Driving, Driving While Under Suspension, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Contempt of Court, and Interference with a Police Officer Causing Injury.
Sgt. Todd Stanyon said a woman who had been camping with Webb was found distraught and crying on the Elk Refuge by a couple visiting Jackson Hole. She was walking toward town from Curtis Canyon. They offered assistance but Webb soon showed up and was belligerent. At one point Webb drove recklessly alongside the tourist couple causing them to have to stop their vehicle.
One of the tourists was armed and showed the handgun to Webb, suggesting he back away and restrain himself. Once away from Webb, the tourists called 911. Officers from the Jackson Police Department arrived and arrested Webb. One of the officers suffered a lacerated thumb during a struggle to cuff the perpetrator.
It’s the second arrest and detention in less than a month for Webb. The Alabama-native was jailed in late April for DUI during which he led cops on a high-speed chase with troopers clocking him at 105 mph at one point.
During his initial appearance in April for DUI, speeding, driving without a valid license, no proof of insurance, and expired registration, Webb had his bail set at $5,000 after Deputy Prosecutor Brian Hultman recommended $15,000 owing to Webb’s illustrious rap sheet which includes prior arrests and convictions in various other states, for several DUIs, possession, domestic violence, burglary, theft, and escape.
