JACKSON, Wyo. — The past week has been nothing short of a spring treat in the Tetons, with relentless snow wrapping up the resort season and extending the window of opportunity in the backcountry.
With the World Championship Hill Climb taking place this upcoming weekend at Snow King Mountain, an influx of snowmobilers is expected to be recreating in the backcountry. Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center (BTAC) reminds riders that while conditions will consist of deep powder, some serious avalanche concerns will exist.
“We’re going to have some serious avalanche concerns on steep slopes with all the new snow,” said BTAC. “This new snow sits on a variety of old, weak surfaces so we’re going to want to play it safe while this snow stabilizes.”
BTAC recommends riding in low-angle terrain as avalanche danger increases with more snow and rapidly changing conditions.
