JACKSON, Wyo. — The north end of Miller Park will be under construction this summer after the Teton County Board of County Commissioners approved a contract with JD Construction to make ADA improvements at the park at a meeting on Tuesday, June 18.

According to the Parks and Recreation Department staff report, the proposed project includes concrete accessible routes to the east and west, picnic shelters and enhanced ADA parking on both Gill Ave. and Jackson Street.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires that all public spaces provide accessibility features to ensure equal access opportunities for all. According to the staff report, “this project supports the efforts of our community partner, Age Friendly Jackson Hole, and addresses the considerable public feedback the Commission and department have received related to accessibility in our community.”

Miller Park is adjacent to pickleball and basketball courts and also houses a bus stop on START Bus routes.

JD Construction was selected as the contractor after a formal bid, released in the spring of 2022, resulted in no bids received. Parks and Recreation staff reached out to JD Construction directly, pitching them the project because the contractor has worked on other projects in the park in the past.

The project was approved in the Parks and Recreation fiscal year 2024 budget at $70,000 and is supported by a grant of $20,812.50 from the Wyoming Land and Water Conservation Fund. The Board of County Commissioners approved the contract with JD Construction and agreed to contribute $60,674.

The project is scheduled to be completed by Oct. 30.
