JACKSON, Wyo. — The ACLU of Wyoming is hosting a know your rights workshop for the immigrant community in Jackson this month to educate people that, regardless of immigration status, everyone has basic rights that are protected by the U.S. Constitution and civil rights laws.
These basic rights are protected especially when it comes to interacting with law enforcement and ICE officials. According to an ACLU press release, the training will help attendees better understand their rights in a variety of areas that include warrants and search rights, interactions with police and local law enforcement at home, work and on the road, the right to counsel, the right to remain silent and how to answer questions and interactions with ICE and border patrol.
“It’s our goal to give people the tools they need to protect, defend and express their constitutional rights.”
Antonio Serrano, ACLU of Wyoming advocacy director
“Even though we’re navigating uncertain times, know this for sure: Your rights aren’t going anywhere,” Antonio Serrano, ACLU of Wyoming advocacy director, said in the press release. “It’s our goal to give people the tools they need to protect, defend and express their constitutional rights.”
The workshop will take place on Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Teton County Library, 125 Virginian Lane. It will be presented in both English and Spanish.
