JACKSON, Wyo. — The St. John’s Episcopal Church “A Legacy of Love” campaign brings community members together in a fundraising effort to rebuild and expand Browse’ n Buy.
More than a century ago, A Legacy of Love founded St. John’s hospital, went on to create St. John’s Public Library in 1915 and fifty years later built a thrift store with the goal of low cost, high quality clothing and housewares.
On Sunday, Aug. 20 over 250 people came to St. John’s campus to celebrate the official launch of the Legacy of Love Browse’ n Buy campaign. A festive brunch, live music and other carnival-themed activities for youth brought awareness to the importance of a new home for Jackson’s thrift store.
Ground floor of the new building will host One22’s Jackson Cupboard, Teton County’s only food bank. Larger retail space, offices and two units of St. John’s staff housing will occupy the second floor. The accessible and spacious basement space is dedicated as meeting space for the Jackson Hole Recovery Community.
The Rev. Jimmy Bartz announced that over $10.95 million has been raised towards the overall goal of $18 million.
“Browse ‘n Buy is a wonderful resource for our community, and the building is in dire need of restoration and improvement, so that the mission can continue to expand for another fifty years,” said The Rev. Jimmy Bartz. “When folks new to our community ask me about Browse ‘n Buy, I usually say, ‘simply put, Browse turns discard into money and money into love.’ The financial resource raised by Browse allows us to spread love and make a difference across this valley in so many ways.”
The mission of St. John’s Browse’ n Buy is a thrift retail store with the sole purpose of offering assistance to the town of Jackson. Browse’ n Buy supports One22, Jackson Cupboard, CLIMB Wyoming, Community Safety Network, 12-Step Programs, Teton County School District and many more.
