JACKSON HOLE, WYO – With the winter season fast approaching, Parks & Recreation and the town Public Works Department are preparing for winter-related maintenance activities throughout the area.

The primary responsibility during the winter months is to ensure safe, accessible, connected public access throughout the Town of Jackson. To perform snow removal in a safe and efficient manner, streets and sidewalks need to be clear of moveable objects, tree limbs and shrubs.

Sidewalks, for instance, are designed to have a five-foot minimum clear through-zone around immovable objects. Parks and Rec along with the town’s public works department is reminding all local businesses and property owners in the Town of Jackson to take the opportunity to remove any obstructions from the sidewalks for safe snow removal this winter season.

TOJ Ordinance 984, “The Protection and Care of Trees” requires, among other things, that trees and shrubs growing on private properties not encroach onto streets or sidewalks and that overhanging tree limbs be pruned ten (10) feet above a sidewalk and twelve (12) feet above a public street to ensure safe public passage.

Please make sidewalks and other walkways in compliance and clear by November 15.

Parks and Recreation and the Public Works Department would like to express its gratitude in advance for the community’s collaborative efforts to maintain safe and accessible streets and sidewalks for a great winter season.

Also, remember, the annual TOJ Fall Yard Waste Drop Off will be taking place at the Fair Grounds on November 2-3 and is good opportunity to coordinate maintenance.
